I’m Maria…

Founder, formulator, and proud owner of BANG Cosmetics (BC). This small business was born from personal experience, a deep curiosity for science, and a whole lot of love for healthy hair.

Let’s rewind to 2021. Life threw some serious curveballs my way, and during that tough time, I started noticing unexpected changes in my scalp and hair. I was dealing with inflammation, flakiness, a sensitive scalp with scars, and even bald patches. As someone with 4C hair, I struggled to make sense of it all. After a lot of research (and leaning into my inner science nerd), I realized I had psoriasis.

With a degree in Biomedical Science, a Master’s in Public Health and Health Promotion, and years of experience working in labs and healthcare, I did what most people would do... I went straight to the doctors.

But here’s what I didn’t expect: the medicated shampoos were way too harsh for my 4C curls. My hair became dry, brittle, and started breaking off. I needed relief, but not at the expense of my natural hair.

 

That’s when the lightbulb moment happened:

“Wait a minute… I can fix this myself!”

So I got to work…

After months of research, armed with science and stubborn determination, I started developing my own formulas. Products that were gentle enough for kinky, coily textures, but effective enough to soothe my scalp, support my treatment, and promote healthy growth.

And honestly????

My hair started to thrive. Like, seriously thrive.

Growth. Definition. Shine. Just everything I wanted.

After seeing the results on myself, I spent over a year testing and tweaking the formulas on others with curly and Afro-textured hair. The feedback? Nothing short of amazing. That’s when I knew it was time to share them with the world.

So here we are!

BANG Cosmetics (BC) is for the afro- curlies, hair textured people, and everyone who’s tired of choosing between healthy hair and a healthy scalp. I’ve been there — and I created something that works. And when I say it’s for everyone, I mean it. Women, men, kids… EVERYONE is welcome here!
